Roll up garage doors improved a lot over the past decade. Not so many years ago, the driver had to get out of the car to open and close the garage door. That was a real pain, especially for those who were living in crowded and very circulated areas.

As technology evolved, more flexible choices appeared, and garage door are no exception to this rule. While some time ago all doors were made of wood and they were very solid and weighing a lot, today you can use aluminum for lighter doors. You can use PVC for creating elegant shapes and textures for your doors.

Among the most popular types of garage doors there are: roller garage doors, sectional doors, up and over doors and swing hung roll up garage doors. Each type of door has its own characteristics, its advantages and drawbacks. Depending on your particular case, you may opt for one type or another.

Roller garage doors or roll up garage doors are suitable for places where space is scarce, or the alleyway is narrow, or simply you want to use the space for something else. Such doors roll in a cassette above the entrance, and they are remotely controlled. Such doors are made from narrow strips of metal, usually aluminum, because it is lighter.

If you have a bigger space available, you can choose to install an overhead door for your garage. Also called up and over, such doors are made in one piece and they swing to open. This means they need a place around them where to make the move.

Sectional garage doors are like the roller ones, but the stripes are in fact bigger sections of the door. They can be made of metal or PVC, or composite materials. you can choose to insert windows in such doors if so you wish.

The swing hung doors are the classical type of gate we all know from our childhood. While they can be very stylish and elegant, they need a lot of space around them. However, if you can afford to allocate that space, such doors are worth considering, because they are nice and they can operate many years without breaking.
