Garage Door Repair Tax Credit for Insulated Garage Doors

Take advantage of the new $1500 Tax credit on installing a new insulated garage door. Not only can you increase your home’s appearance and lower your heating bills, you also can qualify for a $1500 tax credit at the end of the year.

Thanks to the new 2009 stimulus legislation signed by President Obama on Feb. 17, 2009, U.S. homeowners can earn up to a $1500 tax credit for buying qualifying insulated garage doors. Full details on the tax credit, along with information about garage door styles and local dealer installers, can be found at GarageWowNow.com, a non-commercial website sponsored by the garage door industry.

This tax credit is available for anyone who purchases a qualified garage door between the beginnings of 2009 to the end of 2010. A home owner is limited to writing off up to 30% of the cost of the garage door with a maximum deduction of $1500.

The qualifications of the garage door must be the following: Must be for residential use must be installed on an insulated garage must be purchased and installed between 2009-2010

The door’s U-factor must be less than or equal to 0.30, even if the door contains windows.

The door also must feature an air tight system around the base of the garage door. Must garage doors with a .30 or less U Factor will have this function.

The use of the door must be intended on use for at least 5 years.

The garage also must be the garage, or one of the garages at your primary residence.

There are many benefits to installing a new garage door. Having a poorly insulated garage door will mean that during the cold season your warm air can escape, and in the hot month your cool air will escape. A new garage door will increase the appearance of your home, help lower your monthly heating and cooling bills, and now make you eligible for a $1500 tax credit.
