Garage doors are seemingly boring entities with nothing in them to attract the attention of a sane man, but to a mechanical engineer, the garage door is a marvel of human engineering because it contains quite marvelous machines that help a door as big as itself, open and close any difficulty. Apart from engineers they are also very admirable for people with an aesthetic sense. This is because the garage door is just like an open canvas; it could represent a place to express creativity and it could also be seen as the part of the house that converts an open space into a home for the cars.

The thing is that it’s not just the driving mechanisms of the garage doors that present choice; it is also the overall design of the garage door that needs to be considered. Many times people miss out on the really good designs of garage doors only because they don’t know about them.

There are many different types of driving mechanisms for garage doors and one of them is the motor driven mechanism that has been around for many years. It mainly uses a motor to rotate a chain that in turn rotates a cam which is attached to a shaft that has usually wheels attached to it that come in contact with a flat door. The wheels slide the door in and out of its closed position.

Because of the noise problem, some companies started to produce garage door driving machines that deliver force to the actual door by means of a belt made of rubber instead of a metal chain. As it sounds, the rubber is much quieter and that is why people started to get it installed pretty quickly.

The only problem with the rubber machine is that it is considerably more expensive than the chain machine. It is for this reason that the chain driven garage door operation machine has not yet become obsolete.
