Having garage door openers has given a huge advantage for a lot of households daily. The styles coming out now are more dependable because of the state and federal rules that entered the scene on January 1, 1993. These rules which were adapted from the Underwriters Laboratories Standard 325, UL 325 for short, demands that each residential garage door opener created for sale in the US must all have an optical sensor or door edge sensor as a constant feature. UL 325 also makes sure that the environment is protected and even the smallest instabilities are taken care of.

The National and state garage door safety laws are all anchored to UL 325. The Underwriters Laboratories were the originators of this code in 1973 as they belong to an industry who voluntarily drafted a safety guideline which they later on revised in 1982 and 1988 to widen the scope and include protection against electric shock, fire and entrapment hazards. The amalgamated laws was imposed which demands every residential garage door opener made to be sold locally to follow the UL 325 entrapment protection prerequisites. A revision was passed in January 1993 for an inclusion of the requirement for every garage door to have optical sensor or door edge sensor, or an equivalent safety gadget.

The code does not forbid people from buying old garage door models. If the old one you are using wears out, however, owners need to buy new parts. This is the part where a newer model indeed looks better.

On top of reinforcing a firmer law, the garage door opener industry also began a consumer awareness safety campaign. To lock on the safety and efficiency of your garage door and opener, they need to be monthly assessed. Allowing the dirt to accumulate and the problems to persist may end in greater trauma. Unfortunate events await reckless operation and disregard of children playing with the garage door opener controls.

A few simple precautions can protect family and friends from potential harm. It is very perilous and may lead to something as serious as demise. Children should not be allowed near transmitters or wall controls.

Affix the push button wall not lower than 5 feet from the ground. Clear it from any moving parts and should be fully beyond the reach if kids. Mount and use the button where you can clearly see the closing garage door.

Meet your children regarding the safe usage of the garage door. Keep the door in sight until it completely closes. Teach children to never play under or near an open garage door.

Stop them immediately if you see them running under a closing door. Let an object with the dimension of 2×4 lie flat directly under the garage door. There should be a ceasing and reversal of any closing door. If you do not see the appropriate response, know that the opener needs to be fixed, checked or totally replaced.
